The Ski Memory spectacle is the first cultural event which will explain 4 000 years of skiing and offering an extraordinary trip in the time.
The ski instructors of the French Ski School, the Tourist Office, the Lifts Main Office and the Town Hall representatives gather to present a great spectacle which gives a special taste of quality and conviviality to the evening feast events of the resort all the winter long.
The Linga stadium is lightened and becomes an outdoor theatre with technicians and staffs working on the sides of the slope… Then, people come attracted by the lights, the music to enjoy the event…
Everyone has questions about the past of our favourite sport.
Do you know that it was born over 4000 years ago in teh steppes of Central Asia?
Why and how it developped in Scandinavia?
Do you know that during the 11th Century the best skier of Norway Kingdom was already practicing revolving jumps?
|
Why before the end of the 19th Century downhill ski was ignored in the Alps?
Do you know that the English were the ones who promoted ski competitions? |
That since 1873 some American pionneers have established a speed record at 141Km per hour?
why the most prestigious ski race is named as an Afghan city?
Ski Memory will answer to all your questions and will certainly surprise you !

We have today seen our first snow of this winter around the mountains of the Portes du Soleil and Chatel. The snow limit is forecast to be around 1000 metres this weekend. The snow conditions throughout the whole 07/08 season were superb, its a little early to get too excited for this winter season, but lets hope this is a sign of things to come.

Well, summer’s over and Joseph is back at school after 2 months off. We had a busy time with lots of guests over June, July and August and the weather was fantastic too. I was able to take Joseph swimming at the outdoor pool in Chatel 2 or 3 times a week, so he progressed from 1 width to 16 lengths! With an autumnal feel in the air our thoughts turn to winter preparations - the logs are stacked, the oil delivered and the chimney sweep is booked. Bookings are looking good, our staff are ready and we know from experience that the next couple of months will fly by and we’ll soon be looking to the skies for that first snow!

Following 2 great seasons looking after guests staying at Chalet Les 2 Vallees Sue, Dave and the guitar have sadly returned to Ireland to real life, real money and normal jobs however don’t be suprised if you see them again - I have a little suspicion they will be back in Chatel the future. After their secondment to Chatel for the winter 07/08 season Ian & Jane have returned to there previous roles in the UK running the Mountain Air Holidays UK office, and when they have time and are not injured, doing a bit of work for the Staffordshire Fire Service! And finally following a year out in Chatel looking after our self catered clients Fleur has also returned to nomallity back in the UK.

With just a few weeks left of the summer season here in Chatel things are slowly winding down after a busy few months. The weather this summer has been superb and we are now looking forward to a warm dry Autumn. As the summer comes to an end we now begin preparations for the winter including rennovations on the chalets, staff training and recruitment. Bookings are coming in thick and fast we are already getting excited.

Earlier on last week we took some family on a little walk! It turned out to be rather longer than planned however the scenery was breathtaking. Beginning in Chatel we took the chair lifts and a short walk to the Col de Chesery and Lac Vert. This is simply a beautiful spot at an altitude of around 2,000 metres with the Refuge de Chesery on the edge of the lake. From there we walked on to the Col de Portes du Soleil where we stopped for lunch and then along the winter valley back to Morgins via Tovassiere. The final part of the walk took us past Lac Morgins and back into Chatel. A superb walk!
