Other Activities in Chatel
Walking & HikingThere are more than 65km of footpaths in and around Chatel and over 300km of well marked trekking routes in the Portes Du Soleil. From a ramble around the Lac de Vonnes, a themed trail on the Morclan or a visit to the Chatel meadows tasting local farm produce along the way there is something to suit everyone. We have maps and books of walks which you can borrow or we can arrange guided walks with a qualified local guide.

White Water Rafting
White water rafting takes place on the river Dranse. A team of well organised and professional instructors will ensure that you have a safe but thrilling day out. While you are here you can also try canyoning, white water swimming, canoeing and paragliding. We can pre book all water sports and provide transport to and from the rafting centre.
Fantasticable
This is unique to Chatel: if you are a thrill seeker, Chatel is worth a visit just to experience the Fantasticable. There are 2 Fantasticable lines stretching over Plaine Dranse. Open every day from mid June, this is truly an incredible experience, flying 240 metres above the valley and where you will reach speeds of up to 100kmh. See image at top of page.
Hydro-SpeedAnother great way to enjoy the river. Just as much fun (if not more) than rafting and a little more technical. You follow a guide down the river with a large float and flippers picking your route through the rapids and trying to avoid the rocks!
Adventure TrailZip wire, monkey bridges and more....... A Fun trail from tree to tree and a wide range of route for dfferent abilities.
Horse RidingIf you wish to see the mountains on horse back there are stables near by. Riding trips can be pre-booked and are supervised by experienced instructors.
Chatel Swimming Pool
The swimming pool is in the village centre and is open daily from 10am - 6pm. There are 3 pools, a large 25m pool, a medium sized pool for children and a small pool with water slide. There is also a large lawned area for relaxing and a cafe / bar. With your multipass you have unlimited access to the pool all week long.
High Altitude Climbs
With the Valais Alps and Mont Blanc massif close by, the high mountains are within easy reach of Chatel. Various 1 or 2 day glacier hikes with crampons are available climbing some amazing peaks of around 4,000 metres.
Rock ClimbingA huge range of climbing options are available in and around Chatel. The Plaine Dranse climbing area has 26 routes from 5 - 10 metres. Abseiling down the Essert waterfall offer 2 routes (semi wet and wet) involving 6 abseils from 30 - 50 metres.
Via FerrataThe Saix de Miolene is a very steep rock face and the route is made up of a succession of ledges, corners and overhangs. There are 3 sections each can be completed seperately or all together. equipment hire, instruction and supervision all avaialble.
Fishing
Either on the shore of Lac de Vonnes or the banks of of the river Dranse the valley offers a great place to fish. Lac de Vonnes is a family friendly lake for all types of angling open from My - October. Lac de Mouille is a private lake for recreational fishing open from June. The Dranse d'Abondance is home to one of the finest populations of native trout in this area of France.
Paragliding
Take a tandem flight with a qualified instructor to get an incredible experience and see the valley in a whole new way. With all flights you can buy a CD with images of your flight to share the experience with others.
Summer Bobsled RunSet amoung the trees at Pre la Joux this 650m track with 7 high speed bends is great fun for adults and children or all ages.
Devalkart & Rollerbe
On the Rubis piste at pre la Joux there are 20 karts for anyone wanting to try out this new sport. Come down the piste at your own speed and go back up again by hooking the kart to the ski tow. The Rollerbe all terrain scooter is also on the same section or mountain.
A multitude of additional activities are available in Chatel. There is an archery centre, tennis courts, a 6 hole golf course, crazy golf, football, boules, pedal boats plus much much more.
- Les Mouflets which is a day care centre open for children 6 months to 6 years.
- The bowling alley in the centre of Chatel has 4 computerised lanes.
- The Loy area of Chatel just a few hundred metres from our chalets offers a variety of activities including mini golf, archery, go karts, mini tennis & crazy golf.
- Wellbeing and relaxation centres offering massage, chromotherapy, aromatherapy, facial treatments.
