As well as having breathtaking scenery, the Portes Du Soleil has around 850 km of marked mountain bike trails and seemingly endless singletrack to explore. Using the 24+ ski lifts that are adapted to carry bikes in the summer, from Chatel you have access to almost every resort in the Portes Du Soleil including Morzine, Les Gets and the Swiss resorts of Morgins, Champery and Les Crosset - this really is prime mountain biking country and so ideal for mountain biking holidays.

Chatel Bike Park - Pre La Joux
In Chatel there are loads of downhill mountain biking tracks and new routes being added every year. Châtel bike park is situated at Pré-la-joux and accessible by Pierre-Longue and Rochassons chair lifts, it consists of 17 trails of all levels of difficulty (15 downhill) from green tracks for beginners to blue, red and black downhill tracks for the more experienced. The Chatel bike park has developed over the last few years into one of the best in Europe and now includes 2 green runs, 4 blue runs, 2 red runs and 6 black runs, all around 2.5km in length and 360 metres in decent.
6 North Shore Zones - These are all accessed by the blue "Blues & Rock" and have wooden bridges crossing over many natural obstacles with a huge range of difficulty.
The Face Mountain Style - This area was created for the freeride / slopestyle competition that takes place each year in Chatel. This black zone is accessed from the red SX track and mixes modules and natural features. A tough course!
Le Kids Park - For the little guys and girls looking to ride like the big guys and girls there is an area dedicated to getting kids started into Mountain Biking. A great "baby slope" area at the bottom of Pre La Joux next to the dirt jumps, wooden ramps and the 4X.
Super ChatelHere you will find a blue and black run. The Premium is a blue run designed for beginners. Leaving the top of the telecabine you can enjoy its banked corners and fast sections before joining the toboggan section at the bottom. La Dange black run is aimed to challenge the best riders. From the telecabine taking the forest route you come across a huge jump and huge bermedcorners. You then enter 2 technical sections over a huge table top before the next seaction which test the root lovers down a very steep slope.
Mountain Bike Hire Summer 2010Some extreme terrain around Chatel & the Portes du Soleil requires specialist bikes and therefore we offer you a wide range of bikes for hire during your holiday.
Pricing 2010Its Possible to rent bikes from 1/2 a day to 6 days and everyting in betweeen. Below is a guide to this years pricing. All guests of Mountain Air Holidays will receive a 10% discount.

Chatel Mountain Bike Events - Summer 2010
Passportes du Soleil 26th - 27th June 2010
Following great success in recent years, last year the PassPortes MTB event celebrated its 6th birthday. Over 20,000 people have now participated and raced along the 80km circuit. The event takes place at an altitude of between 1000 and 2250m and covers resorts in France and in Switzerland discovering the Portes du Soleil area and its marvellous landscapes.
In 2010 the event will be bigger thna ever with Chatel the host resort, registrations begin on 10th February 2010

The Passportes event includes:
- 3 circuits of 30, 50 and 80 km
- 7 resorts with simultaneous starts in France and Switzerland
- 12 ski-lifts
- 6000 metres of total vertical descent
- Different routes for cycling uphill on bikes for the more courageous,
- Optional downhill race tracks ...

Mountain Guiding – Using qualified local guides we can organise guiding throughout the Portes Du Soleil to suit all levels.
Bike Maintenance – In a central location to all the accommodation and lifts we work with an excellent cycle shop where any maintenance and repairs can be carried out by their experienced bike tech.
Additional Activities/Events – During your week we can also organise other events such as white water rafting on the river Dranse, wine tasting at a local vineyard, visit to a thermal spa, visits to local towns such as Montreux, Geneva, Annecy and Chamonix.
